As a comprehensive counseling center, Shoreline offers family therapy and counseling for the residents of the greater New Haven area.
In many instances, entire families are impacted by tragedies, crime, grief and loss, transitions such as a move or divorce, mental illness, unmanageable conflict, codependency, or other relationship difficulties. In these situations, it is often helpful for the entire family to heal together. A common goal in family therapy is to create new patterns of interacting and coping within the family system. A family counselor can support each family member’s ability to gain greater insight into their own experience and to effectively communicate that experience with each of the other family members so as to deepen mutual understanding, strengthen relationships, and empower each member of the family to provide support, nurturing, encouragement, and healing to the others. In family therapy, there is no one identified individual client; rather, the family as a whole, and all the relationships contained therein are seen as the client.
